Star Cops: Conflict 5.5


A somewhat nervous worker on a moonwalk, and shooting down drones - fairly run of the mill stuff. Just a normal day on Moonbase, until a message comes though that Moonbase will be destroyed…


The nervous worker Vanessa, seemed quite happy up to recently. Confident in her work, and outgoing, being so eager to leave raises suspicions. It also made me think when they put her into the cells. I remember the Tv series when Nathan first found the office for the ISPF - the rather cramped conditions. I’ve never really considered how things have moved on. Having cells, interview rooms etc.


Tick Tock, it doesn’t take much to work out what it referring to. They ISPF get a message - a missile to heading to Moonbase. It brings some interesting events, whether the message is real or not. There’s nice discussions with the ISPF and the Coordinator about who has the say in evacuating Moonbase, It could cost billions if its a hoax, but many will die if its not.


There are a number of call backs. Colin mentioning Niagra Falls from a previous audio. Alice’s death. The Hattie Jaques is referred to - a detail I’ve always enjoyed about Star Cops is the naming of stations and such after famous people. Kenzy’s relationship hasn’t been forgotten either, though its not the centre of the proceedings its just nicely bubbling away.


With the possibility of Moonbase’s destruction and the team doing their best to stop it, the tension isn’t quite as heightened is as it could be, but it’s close. The odd swear word popping up adds to the realism, and you are engrossed with the action.


It ends on a terrific cliffhanger, and not what you expect. Can’t wait for the last audio in this series.

Power Game  Doctor Who the Monthly Range 248b Kamelion has been missing for three weeks, its York, the 1980’s and that’s just the beginning. This hits the ground running, but not only has Kamelion gone but now they’ve lost Tegan as well. Tegan herself finds she’s on a TV gameshow, how she got there is a bit of a mystery as she no idea how shearrived. The show pops up at various times on different channels in the middle of other programs. It’s a good start, no faffing about and with this a two parter that’s probably a good idea. The Tv show gives contestants challenges, when they fail they’re out, interestingly enough there are no prizes, and the contestants soon forget about their real lives.  It’ll be no surprise that the gameshow isn’t real and is a veneer for what’s really going on. The Quest of the Engineer                                     The Fourth Doctor Adventures 9.4                                               On a planet that reconfigures it surface, the Doctor, Romana, Adric and K9 are seeking info on a CVE. They encounter the ‘Engineer’ who is also interested in CVE’s, though there is more to him and the planet than at first seems. I had to check that I had started with part one, as it begins with Adic having been arrested for taking K9 though the streets where technology is forbidden. They meet Rigis Tel played by George Layton (perhaps more noted in DW circles as being the Space pirates) and go on to find the truth about the planet.
