Timewyrm: Exodus                                                  


Doctor and Ace arrived in the early 1950’s UK. It's not long since the war was won or was it? It maybe England but the Nazis are in control. So what happened and where is the Timewyrm?


Its such a pity that this wasn’t the first book in the series, if it had been I probably would have continued with the series when they originally came out, instead of giving up a couple of chapters into Genesis. 


A nazi occupied Britain story is a bit been there done that, two a penny these days, maybe not so much in the nineties though. The nice thing is that it doesn’t linger there, in fact there are 3 or 4 time periods they visit over the course of the novel. 


This reflects the more adult nature of the new adventures in a much better way than the last book. Rather than the nudity/sexual tones, it manages it by Ace getting beaten up in order to look more convincing as a Nazi prisoner. 


There are some great moments with the Doctor doing his ‘look like you own the place’, by assuming the identity of high ranking official. Hitler isn’t a subject I care for, I’m not that keen on the Red Dwarf episode with Lister playing guitar with him. Aside from that is is interesting as we go through his life and his rise to power. 


The Timewyrm component is kept to a minimum as this also brings in another alien element, and one from the past. It doesn’t quite have the same impact that maybe it did at the time. With Big Finish and the series coming back, a lot of reunions and rematches have been done. But I still felt a little unsatisfied as neither were they the main focus or used to their full potential.


Overall I enjoyed it.

The Iron Maid The Companion Chronicles 12.3 14th  century and a church in France is where The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe find themselves… I’m writing this more fro completion that anything else. I have been struggling with audios lately, just not being able to get into them. This just didn’t engage me, its a bit slow, I should probably give it another go but I don’t really see much reason. Though this is a Zoe/Wendy Padbury story Frazer Hines also features playing Jamie and the second Doctor. There is a scene where Wendy does narrate instead which felt a little odd, the audio doesn’t make the best use of Frazer. The plot itself is about relics from a war, but a war in the future. Its not a bad premise, but the style of the audio isn’t one that excites me.

The Lumiat                                         Missy 2.1                          Missy, up to her old tricks of stirring up the red and the black ants. Only this time its people. All going well (or bad depending on your viewpoint) until a timelady appears, it has to be the Doctor doesn’t it? Who else could it be? I listened to this twice - a couple of months apart. The first time I felt it was OK, but seeing the reviews and it having been rated quite highly, I thought perhaps I’d missed something. The Lumiat: she’s has been in a couple of other audios (Masterful and Timelord Immemorial)  - both of which I’ve heard but in the wrong order. Gina Mckee pays the Lumiat, for me always remembered for being on the Lenny Henry show. I don't really remember much about her from those audios though. With the Lumiat showing up ...
