Star Cops: Conflict 5.4


Still reeling from the Death of Alice Okoro, The Star Cops have to carry on. A vessel finds its way back into the Moons orbit. Previously stolen, with three dead and one survivor, the ISPF investigate.

Although Alice is gone she’s not entirely forgotten, the stolen craft was her investigation. Nathan and Paul board the ship. The survivor terrified of a creature, yet they cant find any evidence of any such monster. The fact that Nathan starts hearing Alices voice, makes you  wonder if the strain is taking its toll on him.

The drifting ship is a classic sci/fi trope, though that’s probably the height of the sci/fi elements. Also it's not heavily dependant on continuity, so you can enjoy it on its own. 

The new Moonbase commander does feature in this, though I was expecting more to be made of the relationship. Some conflict or something, but it all seems just fine and not really adding much to the proceedings.

You do get the suspicion of what going on, so it's not a complete surprise of the discovery. You're just waiting for it to be revealed.

The use of the dreaded word ‘flashlights’ was used early on, and pretty much ruined my enjoyment. Reminding me that Big Finish are tailoring their audio’s solely to a US market. If this was an US drama, or even an US character It wouldn’t be so jarring.

The Iron Maid The Companion Chronicles 12.3 14th  century and a church in France is where The Doctor, Jamie and Zoe find themselves… I’m writing this more fro completion that anything else. I have been struggling with audios lately, just not being able to get into them. This just didn’t engage me, its a bit slow, I should probably give it another go but I don’t really see much reason. Though this is a Zoe/Wendy Padbury story Frazer Hines also features playing Jamie and the second Doctor. There is a scene where Wendy does narrate instead which felt a little odd, the audio doesn’t make the best use of Frazer. The plot itself is about relics from a war, but a war in the future. Its not a bad premise, but the style of the audio isn’t one that excites me.

The Lumiat                                         Missy 2.1                          Missy, up to her old tricks of stirring up the red and the black ants. Only this time its people. All going well (or bad depending on your viewpoint) until a timelady appears, it has to be the Doctor doesn’t it? Who else could it be? I listened to this twice - a couple of months apart. The first time I felt it was OK, but seeing the reviews and it having been rated quite highly, I thought perhaps I’d missed something. The Lumiat: she’s has been in a couple of other audios (Masterful and Timelord Immemorial)  - both of which I’ve heard but in the wrong order. Gina Mckee pays the Lumiat, for me always remembered for being on the Lenny Henry show. I don't really remember much about her from those audios though. With the Lumiat showing up ...
