The Companion Chronicles 12.4                  

Ruth Matheson is in the jungle, heading towards an temple with only a recording of Zoe Herriot to guide her.

I don’t do my research, and having finished my current play list for the month early I brought this up to fill the gap. The companion chronicles make a nice rest between boxsets. I did wonder if I’d missed something - whether this carried on from something else. I do believe what happened to Charlie Sato is explained in a short trip, a usually they’re together. Assuming you know who Ruth is then you’re good to go. 

I’ve come to quite like Ruth, and its nice that Daphne Ashbrook gets to still get to play a role in the Doctor Who universe This is mostly a two hander between Ruth and adversary Deakin. Ruth has traveled to a temple where Deakin has been living for a few years, in order to do a trade.

I was a little distracted when I listened so didn’t get the most out of it. Ruth has a fluid link and Deakin has artefacts from the TV story The visitation. So some nice tie ins. The recording of Zoe is interesting - the fact that she’s been there before. Things get complicated when the TARDIS arrives with her, the Second  Doctor and Jamie.

Though the Doctor and Jamie are technically part of the adventure, they’re pretty much off camera, with Zoe playing the integral parts.

All in all enjoyable.

Power Game  Doctor Who the Monthly Range 248b Kamelion has been missing for three weeks, its York, the 1980’s and that’s just the beginning. This hits the ground running, but not only has Kamelion gone but now they’ve lost Tegan as well. Tegan herself finds she’s on a TV gameshow, how she got there is a bit of a mystery as she no idea how shearrived. The show pops up at various times on different channels in the middle of other programs. It’s a good start, no faffing about and with this a two parter that’s probably a good idea. The Tv show gives contestants challenges, when they fail they’re out, interestingly enough there are no prizes, and the contestants soon forget about their real lives.  It’ll be no surprise that the gameshow isn’t real and is a veneer for what’s really going on. The Quest of the Engineer                                     The Fourth Doctor Adventures 9.4                                               On a planet that reconfigures it surface, the Doctor, Romana, Adric and K9 are seeking info on a CVE. They encounter the ‘Engineer’ who is also interested in CVE’s, though there is more to him and the planet than at first seems. I had to check that I had started with part one, as it begins with Adic having been arrested for taking K9 though the streets where technology is forbidden. They meet Rigis Tel played by George Layton (perhaps more noted in DW circles as being the Space pirates) and go on to find the truth about the planet.
