Legacy of Blood
Doctor Who: Christmas - It’s A Wonderfull War and Other Stories
Ellie Higson, its 1962, long gone are her friends Jago and Litefoot. Not that’s its stopped her. Aided with their notebooks she has something to investigate. Help would be appreciated, just as well the Sixth Doctor turned up.
I started listening to The Jago And Litefoot series a couple of years ago and have only reached the end of the sixth series, so this is jumping ahead a bit for me. With both the actors no longer with us, you do feel the sense of sadness, which is what Ellie feels. So a Jago and Litefoot story with out Jago or Litefoot.
The story itself centres around vampires or at least the resurgence of. If you followed the J&L series you may remember Sanders, from series 2, well this deals with his legacy.
It may be a bit of a spoiler, unless you’ve read the cast list, but Leela turns up in this. There is history of The sixth Doctor and Leela in the J&L series so so suppose they fit nicely to fill the gap left by J&L.
There is a great bit of dialogue between the Doctor and Leela. The Doctor judging Leela for her actions and Leela quite rightly correcting him.
A bit of an info dump later in the episode, another character enters the story and there’s along conversation to catch up up. But I did have to go back a couple of times to take it it.
With this dealing with Leela and Ellie and the experiences they’ve had, it really helps if you’ve followed the J&L and Gallifrey series. If you haven’t then some of this may be as impactful as it is. As I have it pays off well, and as it references those audios I’ve followed.
Most of this is about people - the characters and the lives they’d led. The story itself isn’t something I was particularly gripped by. But the stuff with Ellie and Lee make it rewarding.
This comes across as kind of a coda foe the Jago and Litefoot series, as I’ve said I’ve not as yet listened to the whole series, so I can only assume.
As a seasonal audio its connections to Christmas are tenuous and I feel that this would have better suited a different release.
