Homecoming
Gallifrey Time War 4.4
Romana, Leela, Narvin and the Daleks are all heading for Gallifrey and Rassilon is waiting.
Leela and Narvin have reunited and are planning to continue the course of making the time vortex unusable. Romana is now a prisoner of the Daleks, who are using null space to edge closer to Gallifrey.
Richard Armitage is playing Rassilon, and its a bit of a wonder why this isn’t called the madness of Lord Rassilon as he seems unhinged, disconnected from reality and thinks he’s god. So judging by events of the modern series he’s spot on.
It is quite nice to have Leela, Romana and Narvin together again, though all too briefly. Finding out how they’re all got on since the end of the last series in the previous three episodes, it kind of feels back on track.
The Daleks are advancing on Gallifrey but they are more of a side issue, to be honest I was hoping for a more full on action piece. But, though not quite reaching the heights of top marks, its still pretty good. Nobody’s plans go quite as they would like, but that’s the drama.
I enjoyed this episode but wasn’t as bowled over by it as I feel I should have been. There is the problem of always having to top what’s gone before, but as this is the time war, the actual time war hasn’t been that much at the forefront. More dealing with the knock on effects, and putting things in place to tie up the old and new.
A good episode and a good series.
