Crossfire part 2


1. Funeral on Kalion


The ruler of the natural planet of Kalion has died. There is no heir. Its the biggest manufacturer of space ships in the galaxy. There are two presidents vying for power and then there’s the Liberator crew…


The ‘crossfire’  idea introduced in the first set carries on here. Servalan seized the presidency, yet the old president hasn’t given up just yet. They both want power and will fight to keep it. The first set didn’t really do much in the way of making the most of the idea- in fact almost ignoring it. So at least this set, or episode is doing something about it.


The two presidents show up for the funeral, the seal of Kalion is the key to ruling, and they both desperately want it. Of course Avon and co also want to put a spanner in the works. Its set during series 3, where, after losing Blake and the federation shattered. They were a little aimless so this crossfire idea, does restore some of that purpose.


Unfortunately, not a lot really happens. Diplomacy means the two presidents have to be on their best behaviour. Avon, Villa, Cally,  Tarrent and Dyana try to slip in unnoticed to steal the seal.  There is that trope of the liberator crew not really achieving their goal, and it all being a bit of a waste of time, other than to stop Serverlan. 


Its nice enough, but nothing new.

Missy Series 1 Part 3: The Broken Clock The adventure continues. In this episode the listener finds themselves hearing a US crime documentary. Impossible murders where the victim, recently killed has been dead for months? Its does take over fifteen minutes for Missy to enter the story and at first I wasn’t getting into it. I do feel that British should stick to British and US to US, as I’m never really sure if its offensive or not. I know I cringe at US Tv programs with British accents, interestingly enough it does come into play in this. So as you can imagine it does that docudrama thing of narrating and reenacting the events of the crime. And it is when Missy eventually turns up when the lines between fiction and reality start to blur. Suddenly we’re not sure if the actors recreating the events are actors, since they can hear the narrator and can’t see any cameras.   Doctor Who: Once and Future: Coda - The Final Act A year after ther Once and Future series ended, we have the last part. The Fugitive and War Doctors' are pitted against each other. It took me a few minutes before I realised I was listening to the War Doctor, I had wondered if it was susposed to be the first Doctor. I Have yet to listen to the War Doctor begins so this was my first time in hearing Jonathon Carley as the early War Doctor, and he's not bad. Jo Martin reprises her role as the Fugitive Doctor. The Fugitive of the Judoon episode was the first time in Jodie Whittakers era I sat up and took notice; something interesting was happening. Although, for me, the Timeless Child storyline isn't something I care for. But I am interested in where the character goes, however saying 'Yadda,Yadda,Yadda' was a bit of a turn off. The War Doctor Begins : Forged In Fire Part 2: Lion Hearts A Timelord solider is being debriefed, her latest mission was to rescue a Tharil prisoner named Biroc, she thought it was a solo mission until another timelord showed up: the Doctor. I’ve said before that the War Doctor audios haven’t really been for me. Listening to the Doctor playing solider boy isn’t really my cup of tea. I’m watching The Deadly Assassin at the moment, seeing these old, dodgery, stick-in-the-mud people and then hearing these soldiers hell bent on winning the war is hard to reconcile.  I also feel that the Doctor shouldn’t just be a pawn in the game and should just turn up and do what he believes to be the right thing. In this he does more or less do that. The addition of Biroc - the Tharil from Warriors Gate is a nice touch but adds little to the plot.
